About
Even though I’m a geek, I’ve resisted the temptation to put a blog out in cyberspace to simply waste more bandwidth. I figured enough gets wasted as it is. I’ve finally thought of a few things worthy of placing in cyberspace and discovered a blog was a good way to implement it, so here I now stand.
With this blog I hope to publish a few things that I have discovered and have never seen on the web so that others may benefit. Nothing earth shattering, I promise, but hopefully things people will find useful.
Professional Work
I work as a linux system administrator for a large corporation responsible for overseeing a development lab. Most of the computers under my control are running RedHat Linux or CentOS Linux (a free version of RH Enterprise Linux). I have a few Windows servers for the Rational software used in the development process. I have been using linux personally since the early 90’s (I still have a handwritten list with all of the kernel parameters on it for when I recompiled the kernel!) and professionally since that time in one capacity or another–my bosses never cared that I was running linux for lab infrastructure, they just wanted everything to work. Currently, I am experimenting with Kickstart and making custom RPMs for our software packages used on my project.
Other Interests
My other interests run a wide range of topics, most of them usually expensive. I have been into fly fishing for a number of years and am a member of the Long Beach Casting Club. I also manage their website. I am no expert at flyfishing and actually don’t have a lot of time to go fishing, but the people at LBCC are a wealth of knowlege and experience and are generally a blast to hang around with.
I am into photography and have taken college and professional level courses in everything from portrait and commercial work to highly experimental abstract images. Hopefully, I will finally get to posting some of my images as a part of this site.
Currently, I am taking woodworking courses at Cerritos College. I have taken furniture classes and turning classes and am currently taking cabinetry classes. I plan to continue with the cabinetry classes to create storage around the house and finally upgrade the kitchen and bathrooms myself.
No Comments — For Now
Given my background in system administration, interest in computer security, and lack of experience with administering blogs, I have elected to not allow comments for now. Besides, there’s nothing to comment on yet, so it seems pretty pointless. This will probably change in the future, but for now, I am not turning it on. Sorry for those of you wishing to leave feedback, whoever you may be.
Other Attractions
Not that ANYBODY would ever notice, but there are breadcrumbs left around this site for our automated, less-welcome, denizens of the Internet. If you see some odd links, ignore them, they are not for you.
